Nothing quite like scuba diving.

Nothing like getting under the water and leaving life as you know it behind. Nothing can bother you when you are exploring a wreck at 100 feet, or digging for lobster under the metal hull plates of an old barge. It's dark, creepy, and exciting.

Or, you can hit the tropics of the Caribbean and see some great marine life in the well lit and warm shallows, all the way down to depths of 130 feet.

Here's a pic of me diving in the Bahamas, during a "shark feed". No, it's not a faked picture.

Here's how they attract the sharks. The Divemaster wears a special "chain mail" suit to avoid accidental bites.

Another one of me cruising along..in the Bahamas, about a year and a half ago.

The original post on DO got a few responses:

Those reef sharks?

Yes...they are probably Caribbean reef sharks. Although "potentially dangerous" they acted more like trained pets, totally ignoring us divers and going after the food in the divemasters cage. I will look for a pic of the divemaster with the bait and post it here.

He wears a chain mail suit because he can get bitten inadvertantly by over eager sharks.

there's mermaids under there too.

I have seen mermaids. Me and my dive buddy ran into two of them. I wrote about it on a scuba diving forum. I will find it tomorrow and post the story here.

Ok, as promised, here is my mermaid story. It gets even better, because I posted this on a scuba diving forum under the topic of "Accidents and Incidents", most of which are serious problems divers have faced underwater, some of which resulted in fatalities, and one particular diver took serious offense to me posting this story in the midst of tragedy...so read on after you finish the story...

You couldn't pay me enough to get in the water with sharks.
I'm a horse person myself. Hang out at the barn every chance I get, which isn't nearly enough!

You have almost as much chance of getting eaten by a horse as by a shark. Seriously.

And a little pink too..

Sharks don't really like people...usually it's "mistaken identity"..although I guess that doesnt make the victims feel any better.

Only the more well "done" parts....... Roll Eyes

Meaning your back and shoulders of course...the parts that are most exposed to the suns rays.

Here's another joke that cums to mind...

These two guys go to the beach, they spend several hours there and they get really tan...all over their bodies, except their dicks...so one says to the other, "Hey I got an idea..lets bury ourselves in the sand, and just stick our dicks out and that will get them tan while we protect the rest of our bodies!". The other guy agrees, so they bury themselves except for their dicks.

A short time later, two old women walk by, they see the penises sticing out of the sand, and one says to the other "Look Mabel, what I wouldn't have done to get one of those when I was younger, and now they are growing wild!"

OMFG! I'm old enough to appreciate that! FABULOUS!  If we had those plussy thingies here, I'd give ya one! (But I'm glad we don't - they are another pet peeve LOL)
