Hard to tell the difference, the way some people talk. Some seem to think that in either event, life will be like the book "The Road"  by Cormac McCarthy.

You know what wizer?  As long as you are doing well, I don't see why you should pay attention EXCEPT you're in a large city and there is the possibility of riots and roving gangs should the worst happen.  That's all you need to worry about.  [/b]
Prepare an emergency and escape plan, have an escape location chosen well ahead of time and maintain a bag packed with essentials (this will vary depending on your escape location).  If you need guidance on what might be essential e.g., medication, personal care items or items to survive outside in cold weather, google "survival bag."

Exactly....You may be ok financially, but it is the ones who are not doing well.  This economy is making people crazy.  One of my places of business have been robbed 2 times in the last six months.  I say learn how to shoot a gun and I hate guns.

These are desperate times. People do things that they might never have considered simply to survive.

I keep a gun at work. Here's hoping I never have to use it...

Yes it is only going to get worse.   I am trying to be optimistic but it is quite scary.

lol sign  I wasn't feeling depressed until I read this thread.

I do worry about the economy making people more desparate.  But, at the same time what can I do?  I try to stay prepared, but you can't always be prepared for whatever craziness might come down the road.

UPDATE 1-IMF says clean up banks to tackle dire world crisis
Mon Mar 23, 2009 6:45am EDT

By Jonathan Lynn

GENEVA, March 23 (Reuters) - The world is in a dire economic crisis, but no recovery is possible until the financial sector is cleaned up, the head of the International Monetary Fund said on Monday.

The crisis will push millions into poverty and unemployment, risking social unrest and even war, and urgent action is required, IMF Managing Director Dominique Strauss-Kahn said.

"Bluntly the situation is dire," he told a meeting on the crisis at the International Labour Organisation, a United Nations agency representing unions, employers and governments that studies labour issues.

Strauss-Kahn was talking less than two weeks before a summit of the G20 leading nations on April 2 to tackle the crisis.

As the crisis spills over into developing countries, millions of people will be pushed back into poverty and hardship, Strauss-Kahn said.

"All this will affect dramatically unemployment and beyond unemployment for many countries it will be at the roots of social unrest, some threat to democracy, and may be for some cases it can also end in war," he said.

Postal chief says post office running out of money

By RANDOLPH E. SCHMID, Associated Press Writer Randolph E. Schmid, Associated Press Writer   – 2 hrs 59 mins ago

WASHINGTON – The post office will run out of money this year unless it gets help, Postmaster General John Potter told Congress on Wednesday as he sought permission to cut delivery to five days a week.

"We are facing losses of historic proportion. Our situation is critical," Potter told a House panel.

The agency lost $2.8 billion last year and is looking at much larger losses this year. Reducing mail delivery from six days to five days a week could save $3.5 billion annually, Potter said.

I figure with all the buying and selling going on online...that the number of packages is going up and all these delivery services will be busier.

I suppose they may have been busier if people weren't frightened by the current economic disaster and tightening their belts.

What scares me most is that during the last depression there were not the number of drug addicts as there are now. A lot of them survivie by burgaling peoples houses and petty theft and prostitution. what happens if people dont hire pros anymore cos they cant afford to? what happens if people dont buy expensive goods anymore cos they cant afford to? what will the drug addicts do to fund their habits?

a drug addiction doesnt end cos of a financial crisis, they will just get more and more desperate and in the end will resort to killing people for their money! up until now if you were robbed you could just claim it back on insurance but if theres nothing to rob the addicts will start killing!! Im moving to the country before that happens. the cities are going to be hell holes and its going to resemble something like a mad max film!  shock
