When I began at the law firm almost 8 years ago, there was an older woman who sat at the desk across from mine....to see a woman in her early 70's still at work was a bit of a shock to me. Her name was Betty. During my time at the firm all of the younger girls of the office would go to Betty with their "how to do" questions. I'm a horrible speller... and Betty could spell ever word under the sun. I used to call out from my desk "hey Betty, how do you spell..... ?" and she would always know. She was like the office grandma. Over the years her health deteriorated. She went from walking with a cane to using a walker. Eventually there was an oxygen tank beside her desk. No matter what obstacle was in her path... she always showed up ready to work. I admire that about her. She enjoyed our office parties... and wanted the "girls" to get together more. Unfortunately, we never did. My dear co-worker and friend passed away recently. She will be greatly missed.... and always remembered. To know Betty was to love her.  |
