My girlfriend was over last night and she flipped on the Lifetime channel. Some good movies on there, even if it's not in HD...(LOL)...most are based on true events.

This one was about a woman who had the misfortune of hooking up with a guy who was a drug dealer..just marijuana, but lots of it. He got busted, she got caught up in it, and since she had nothing to do with it, she couldn't cooperate with the prosecuter and turn in the bad guys, so she got the largest sentence of the bunch...20 years...and all she did was take some phone messages and not "report" the fact that she saw him smoking pot on at least one occasion and saw money changing hands. I thought the movie had to be an embellishment...I mean...20 YEARS for a woman who simply met a guy who was a drug dealer, but never did drugs herself nor sold any?

In fact, not only is it true, but there are THOUSANDS of people in jails all over the country who are guilty of nothing more than knowing someone who was a drug dealer, and not saying anything about it. Past president Bill Clinton pardoned many people that were convicted according to the Federally mandated minimums which completely strip judges of the ability to make their own sentencing...and "unfair" is not the word for it.

If you are interested in reading about real cases of people who are currently serving long jail sentences because of this law, go to http://www.famm.org/ and read about some really, really said cases of people who are in reality, innocent, but have had their lives destroyed because of these crazy laws.

Thanks for the link...Wizer.

And yes, there are lots of crazy laws on the books that the average person does not know about.....our criminal justice system is so messed up.......but most people don't care....unless something happens that affects them directly.

And when that happens.....there is little that can be done to change it.

Oh, and the lifetime movie channel is one of my favorites, as it is full of true-life stories.  My husband also watches lifetime with me.  He was hesitant at first, but once you get to watching.....there is some great movies.

Yeah, I feel the same. Its not a channel I would normally flick on just to watch, but if my girlfriend has it on, I usually find the movies quite good, and since they're based on reality I like it even better..because it's not simply manufactured garbage. It's about real people, and real life stuff.

They gotta get it in High Definition. Once you go HD you don't go back... 8)
