("...I suppose it's just two ways of looking at things, the detraction is that one has a small member base, the plus is that one is dealing with people who are known factors, I just prefer the later, rather than looking over my shoulder each time..." mentioned the goblin)

repost from elsewhere, the "swine flu" thread

the goblin felt that much of what had been posted till now was valid, however his overall conjecture was that the authorities were playing their cards badly, in that, as pointed out before, this is not something nearly as deadly as SARS coronavirus, with its very high death rate, "...in fact, we are looking at something on par with normal influenza, nothing more than that it seems..." said the goblin, adding "...and what are we doing, we are using a stored vaccines on it, so what will happen now, if an outbreak of a SARS like infection occurs in six months time, where we already know how long it takes to stockpile vaccines like this, and that there are not enough vaccines for everyone at this point...", the goblin stopped, as if remembering something else "...the truth is that humans not exposed to infections cannot gain an immunity to them, this strain is new and our bodies are not used to it, agreed, but this infection is rather like that live polio vaccine where, unlike normal vaccines, dead material isn't used, simply, this mild infection could turn out to be a body defense booster, which until it is proved otherwise, should be allowed to run its course though the community in my opinion, with those vaccines saved for only the very weakest amongst us...", perhaps the goblin's words smacked of eugenics here, but somehow the idea of "controlled forest fires", was the goblin stance, since everyone knew what eventually happens to a forest where no forest fires is allowed, so the body, much like the forest, has to have something to build up its own immunity with, or otherwise it dies when the "big one" breaks out

This program is one of the few free antivirus applications that do as good a job as any of the big boys. Avast includes more than seven different kinds of shields, safe-surfing tools, and real-time virus protection for your OS, as well as Outlook. Updates automatically download and install, and Avast works unobtrusively with both Windows Vista and XP.

"...I suppose those trolls do add to ones membership and overall post count here then..." replied the goblin, perhaps suspecting that admin had gone about his site in a way that was altogether normal, straight forward, and the like, and yet not too well thought out, in that the goblin too, had a site, which he had been open for some years ago now, save that it's members were by invite only to those people that that goblin knew well from way back, "...the real question is whether one can run a site that has no members for a year or so, seeing what one can create for oneself first, and then, once one really knows what ones interest are, inviting those who share them or who you feel would benefit from being invited..."

I dunno.

Allowing only "known members" to join a board so as to avoid trolls is like throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

It's easy enough to remove the unwanteds, and there are lots of potential members out there who could add positive things to an internet board.

whatever happened to micheal jackson?

Nothing.

That's why you don't hear anything about him.

He hasn't done anything newsworthy and he hasn't produced any new songs, so he's just gone by the wayside.

That's what happens to some of these wacky celebrities. I doubt we've heard the last of him though.

I didn't mean explode literally.. just meant that the infections would go from eye to eye.. lol  the scar tissue came about after my last horrid bout with pink eye around 14 years old.  During that time you could see the white scar even without shining a light in my eye.  We thought it was puss at the time..  ugh.. pink eye was horrible. I used to get teased about it so much. I had it so often they started calling me Dead Eye at school...

You most likely had a corneal ulcer, which is the most serious form of eye infection.

I've only seen a few of those in 20 years of doing eye exams. There are surgical techniques to reduce the scarring and like I said it could possibly done in conjunction with refractive surgery to reduce your dependency on eyeglasses.

You were called "Dead Eye", huh? I was called "Fish Lips" because my upper lip was thick and turned up a bit.

We would have been quite a pair.

Nature's Conflict too

Curse you crows on better branches
Who leave us owls with lesser chances
Who made us creatures of this night
Always in fear of your daytime strike
But in the dark you cannot see
The owl that swoops upon thee.

Curse you owls in your hidden nest
Who stork us crows as we do rest
Who made us creatures of this day
Always in fear of your nighttime play
But in the light you cannot stop
The crows that group to drop.

No, I don't perceive it as a void. Simply a different paradigm, which I can't personally relate to.
I respect it as their choice. To me, it's logical that events follow events in an orderly fashion, the order of which is sometimes imperceivable to us except in hindsight.

I do not think everyone should believe as I do. My way is not the only way. But it's the only way for me.

If only Homeland Security could spot terrorists the way we pick off trolls over here...
