"...ah, signs of life..." said the goblin feeling that if that there was one thing the humans did well, it was "greed" but little did they know that they were dealing with a black-belt "last post" poster, "...post at your peril mortals..." he softly warned them without him even reaching across to his coffee, he was fast

and then the Darwin goblin suddenly faced the stunned audience in front of him, he had just mentioned why, in his opinion, he had to draw the conclusion that all members were descended from the "one wizer species" he continued in the abated silence of the tentative lecture room "...in fact not only do I put it to you gentlemen that we are all descended from the one wizer species but that since wizer had mentioned that the winner gets a date with him, omitting that the second price was probably two dates with him then..., ..." the Darwin goblin waved the typed copy of the text in his hand to prove it, "...that it could probably read and write too, so therefore gentlemen it has to be later, by some evolutionary mishap perhaps, that the other members of this site had regressed into posting smileys on the goblin's "last post" thread..." the audience pondered the idea deeply, slow silence, and then a sudden rush to their smiley boxes again

(the goblin always welcomes and includes everyone to his, repeat his, "last post" thread here, saying "...in fact, I would rather be here than with normal people, any day...", as he posts the same idea put differently below)

the goblin noted that the first sign of madness was probably “talking to oneself aloud” that is where normal people just talk things over in their minds silently, “...ah but for real madness...” the goblin continued “...one really needs this “last post” thread here...”

This is a copycat thread from elsewhere...

"...yes, I get copied all the time, can't be helped, but like what the say in Hollywood "when I am here, there just is no there then"..." laughed the goblin posting his next which he wrote yesterday, adding "...but the thing that makes this thread different is your input not mine, anything wins but one doesn't want to win with just anything then, go for it mortals..."

repost from a writer's site elsewhere, their "welcome new members" thread

the goblin showed, regally welcomed the new member to this site, and then had the bad habit of losing himself looking across the bistro floor at a child propped in a babychair who in turn, and in big eyed baby sort of way, was looking back at the goblin, "...her trick..." the goblin started, somehow guessing that it had to be a little girl here, since a little girl inter reacted with people more than a little boy who would being trying to escape from the babychair by now, but the goblin just continued "...is to drop the toy on the floor for someone to pick up, to which someone naturally picks it up, placing it in her little hand with some "aren't you cute" uttering and a smile...", to which moments later, and after she has licked the toy clean again, she looks around to see if her next target, in this case the typing goblin here, is game, and just extends her arm in that slow deliberate way letting the toy slip from her fingers, only to notice that the goblin is smiling, of course he'll pick it up for her in a moment he knows but not before typing this, saying "....you see in writing, if you do what is expected, as and when it is expected of you too, you will not be noticed..." and with that the goblin welcomed the new member once more

(wizer had guessed it, the goblin was mad, which somehow seemed the universal qualification, no the only qualification needed to post against him here, "...desist mortals, if not you're coming down this thread with me, MYAHAHAHAHA..." voiced the goblin as he posted his next then)

the goblin wanted to support this site and therefore felt that some pictures were in order here, saying "...well yes, the pictures are there to help people with reading difficulties, whereas the texts are just there for those mental problems, and for those with both I suppose I could link them to MTV if they so wished..."

("...past tense, not sure if the site would still be here from the link in the "reply notification"..." replied the goblin posting his next)

the goblin thanked the posters for their attempt to covert the inevitable course of things and sympathized deeply but alas time had given the last post once more back to its rightful goblin who loved this thread because no matter how his own fortune changed here at least he like anyone else could win just by posting but he reminded himself that this, like any other post, might well be his last so he always wanted to post something he would like to read later even if in fact he wouldn't be able to being no longer in this world "...anyway we goblins are silly about leaving pretty footprints in the snowy path of life..." he thought, "...more snow will fall and all would be forgotten but here we "tread on" on this thread then..."

("...nah, fleamailman is more known than the goblin, well if you google my unsername that is, but everyone just calls me flea on  the site, which I like now..." said the goblin posting his next then)

"...recognition by "hitcount", qualification by "just doing it"..." said the goblin, adding "...so which is the medium that is usurping all others here, not books, magazines, nor newspapers then,  nor even television, cinema or radio, so which then is the medium that everyone likes to inter react with, to contribute to and then to follow...", and with that the goblin guessed that most people here already knew the point which the goblin was making, so the goblin simply repeated "..."welcome to the masked ball of this Internet" for this is our medium now for here we are all our own author/readers..."

Ok, "Flea" it is..going forward..

The internet can be a masked ball, and then again in some ways it can be more personable than the cold anonymity that prevails on most internet websites and forums. Speaking for myself, I put myself out there...and most people know who I am in real life and how to find me if they really want to. That might not necessarily be a good thing, but I don't mind, at least not yet.

Flea you have been around the internet quite a while. A Google search brings up quite a bit of posting on various boards. I'm interested to see what other pearls you come out with down the line...

("...surrender the thread mortals, and I will let you live MYAHAHAHAHAHA..." suggested the goblin liking wizer saying "...now that is where we differ then, I promised the missses, that my "Internet self" and my "dailylife" would remain apart...")

the goblin himself always remained anonymous here, "...anyway, if ones friends or admirers are imaginative, they won't need "dailylife's" fetters, whereas if ones ever unavoidable age, or ones temporary looks, or the color of ones skin for that matter, or ones fickle wealth status, ones deformities, etc., and a whole host of other trivial trappings matter to them enough to make a difference to their friendship toward one, then their feigned friendship just shows its shallowness in my books..." mentioned the goblin who wanted people to see the real goblin, not some man in the mirror here

("...ah yes, yes, yes, that exactly the truth here, I am "full of it" whereas others are "empty of it, a sign of a working digestive process I believe, but of the two I am happy making bad posts than no posts, because if I ever do just one post right then it all would have been worth it, simply, on this "last post" thread, for others here, they can choose not to post if they like, but not me, for me that is surrendering to silence, "dailylife" and bidding of the moneygod..." and with that Nikkie may wonder no more, the goblin explained a bit more in his next then)

"...perhaps then..." the goblin mused on seeing his posts to date "...it's the very fact that one fits badly into one own existence that makes one all that more aware of it...", at which point Death, sitting on the chair opposite the goblin smoking a cigarette ventured "...too true goblin, most people wake up in their beds before their alarm clock goes off, they note how much time is left before that clock will ring and then choose between "sleeping on" or "staying awake", in the warm comfort, only that the real truth is that the alarm clock can go off at any moment...", "...true but what do you suggest then..." asked the goblin curiously, "...nothing really, depends on the individual I guess, how about you goblin, would you "sleep on" or "stay awake"..." but the goblin couldn't answer or at least he couldn't find the right answer, so Death simply grew a smile again saying "...well I suppose goblin if you could actually answer that question your alarm clock would have gone off by now..."

the goblin welcomed the poster again to a seemingly normal site with average members, perhaps guessing that somehow she too had realized that something was amiss here, that they were, all to a man, KGB agents just practicing to be humdrum housewives, "...yes, your asking yourself how in your heart you knew this all along, that is how when comrade admin appealed to her fellow proletariat members to rally up against the constraints of capitalism, you couldn't buy into the hidden Bolshevik ideology here..." said the goblin pausing for the exact words again, he continued "...no, like me, you didn't fall for it because their deception was in a way just too perfect to be real so it had to false then...", "...brilliant Holmes..." came the voice in the background as the goblin's three pipe solution was once more pressed into his pipe "...elementary my dear fellow, no one can post on this site longer than three weeks without going mad, and the rest was just a simple deduction from there then..." the solution smoldered away in the goblin mind

: Re: the last person to post here wins

the goblin liked the pictures, saying "...interesting moment in my writing then, I have both 38 pages of matched stuff, and 37 pages of unmatched stuff, about 1300 posts, of which I am adding new texts to the unmatched thread daily, and to which, once I have found a matching pictures that is, I am then transferring the posts from the "unmatched" thread those posts I feel to be done to the "matched" one, but the problem with this process is that photobucket is just so large that each search seemed to turn up millions of irrelevant pictures, so it is often easier for me just to take someone else's posted picture and use it for my own sake, oh yes "goblins are not to be trusted" we know by now...", and then turning round, the goblin looked out across the compacted city of Geneva, where its reassuring constant sameness under this morning's shadow of gathering rain clouds seemed to push the goblin on, the goblin sipped his coffee and then returned to his thoughts here, adding "...no, no one is pushing me in fact, I, like anyone whosoever, who posts on these threads, could just stop at any moment, or die for that matter, but I wonder if could I really face the fact of seeing myself looking back at this point from either my future old age, or from beyond for that matter, just knowing that that it was my "dailylife" and not me that had actually won on this day...", and with that the goblin hit the "post" button here with a vengeance like a beat of a dancer's drum, adding "...the beat of ones drum is like the beat of ones heart, it proves to me at least that "dailylife" doesn't have it all its own way then..."

repost from a "last post" thread, elsewhere
Fleaman, how many words does it take to say, ... "I'm last"?
"...to others, only a simple "I win" or a few words would suffice , but to oneself I wonder if there are ever enough words, or enough time in this life to really win big, and I want to win big I know..." ventured the goblin knowing that it was what one puts into ones own posts that one wins out of them then, at which point the goblin added "...the question is not if you win here, since you win each time you post, and that is with anything you post too, and you are a persona, that is "a mask" since no one really knows who you really are either, so once you know that you are anonymous, winning against others who are anonymous too, and that you have won regardless, so what is the question that follows on from there I wonder, perhaps "how to win" then..." but it was an idea that the goblin never pushed onto others here, only that others, if they wanted to know what the goblin was about, would know now

(the goblin is going to steal that picture mars bar saying "...goblins are not to be trusted near good pictures...")

the goblin hoped that there would never be a last person, nor a last post here, "...no this is an endless thread, simply it is a glorified chatroom and a stage to post anything one wishes, but unlike a chatroom it has notifications, attachments, spell checker, and every other advantage of a normal thread, that is, while also adding both to the site's total number of posts and ones postcount too, in short, it is a killer thread then..." ventured the goblin adding one proviso  "...ah, but the detractions of the "last post" thread is it ever "on" and "off" topic and its mass popularity since, once started, it can very quickly become the number one thread, much to the decrement of everything else, rather like a cuckoo's egg in the forum nest..."

the goblin apologized for his absence, "...it was just that I needed to be intellectual and deep elsewhere for a while but now I need the company of my friends the mommies again..." confessed the goblin who in a token of devotion started serenading them again to the words of that sweet lullaby "...the mum had got her wrap on, hip hip hip hooray, the mum has got has wrap on and she coming out today

"...it's funny, it wasn't till I saw this thread here today that I remembered something that I had completely forgotten had happened to me some years back...", and with that the goblin explained "...you see, there was this woman, who had bought a computer in our shop quite normally, only to return next morning with the computer in an array of detached bits all in a large cardboard box, wanting it repaired, where, on being refused, she went crazy and grabbed a scanner in her tantrum placing it into her big bag and walked out..." and that should have been the end of it, but no it wasn't, the goblin continued, "...no, she actually returned that same afternoon, minus the scanner of course...", goblin remembered the standard ploy, "...well, the trick now was to stall her till police came, but she went into another tantrum as she realized she had been locked in, and reached for her big bag in her panic and grabbed something in her hand, but the boss's reaction were quick in noticing that she was now holding a large spanner heading for the shop windows, the boss caught her outstretched arm restraining her and shouted to me open the door again allowing her quick escape down the street, straight into the arms of the police who had just arrived on the scene...", the memories of which drifted back into the goblin's mind with a shudder again, but he sipped his coffee again, returning to the story here "...well having closed the shop for the day we turned up at the police station to give our statements, where the interviewing officer calmly confided to us that she was obviously deranged and would need holding for observation...", voiced the goblin as if ending his recollection at this point, almost amazed that all this could have happened and that he had simply forgotten about it, but it was very clear now, even that policeman's parting remark that is, and his casual look when he added "...oh by the way, did you know about the air gun in her bag..."

the bistro owner's wife is enormous for her short size, the goblin often looks at her not so much for something indecent intention but more as the object for some great hug, the personification of Gaea in his view, and in this adoration she would make up for every other woman he knew and whether his hands would meet behind her didn't matter, no it did matter and they wouldn't, wow at the thought which alas is all it could be

Are you referring to anyone in particular?

the goblin was talking generally here, but that post is rooted in the time the police turned up at the shop, "...you see, as part of the being liked, we have three posts, and let people surf on them like a Internet cafe, we also help those people print, scan, burn CDc, etc., only that, for someone doing something wrong, their knowing that we would be unlikely to remember who, any time back, had actually used the computer in the past, it made the setting ideal to say the least...", mentioned the goblin who, at another point, had come across someone in the bistro using a laptop where the harddrive had been removed, "...that is, running the system form a live CD of linux, meaning the IP address would differ each time, while he was cracking a wep with a brute force like password cracker I noticed..." mentioned the goblin, simply it had been those cascading program codes on the screen that had caught his interest since he knew it had to be linux, pearl code and a programmer here..." mentioned the goblin who then struck up a conversation with the man, a student in this case, and it simply turned out to be his game, his way of doing the Internet from any bistro that could pick up someone's WIFI, passworded or otherwise, and as a token of his friendship, the student had then handed the goblin the password when he had found it, not thinking of what the goblin might be able to do with it once inside someones network that is, so the goblin just went back to his original post here, saying "...the post is simply a "public service reminder" to anyone who reads it that there really are sharks are out there, and that one is free to choose whichever level of information about oneself one discloses but that it is not as risk free as one may feel, and once one has chosen to give out those details even once, then those details are, well, out there for eithet good and bad purposes depending on which side the reader is on..."

perhaps the goblin just showed his solidness by posting here then, for the goblin knew he needed a quiet site to write on, just as he needed those busy ones to post across on too, simply he was happy for both types, for it was, in a sense, rather like these bistros again, where at times he was looking across at the others around him for his inspiration, whereas at other times, he was miles away within himself again having found whatever he wanted to write, "...anyway, the space between my ears just seems to wax and wane like the moon, and there are times when my "dailylife" is dull by comparison to my imagination..."

dawn after last night's posting party finds the goblin sweeping away the previous posts with the words like "...I was someone else then..." while outside somewhere, in the looming now, the city wakes to a clear cold sun that pitilessly shines over the arena of exploitation and profitmaking as the goblin, his weapons ready, shouts to the mass of ever eager onlookers "...all hail to the moneygod, we who are about to work salute you..."

the goblin still refusing to admit to himself that looking back his love had been based on faults, but that was it was, she had to be vain, capricious, stubborn, unreliable, unbearable, unreasonable and passionate for the goblin to fall headlong in love with her, anything less was never really feminine enough for him to succumb to her charms

the goblin thanked mars bar knowing his sleeping days were passed him now, he was so very awake now, as he turned his mind back to what he had thought this morning, as if feeling he should repeat it here, "...no, I won't compromise anymore with this "dailylife" of mine, I accept our growing old like this, becoming unemployed or retired, devoiced, those illnesses and handicaps, that loneliness and those ostracizements, even the deaths of near ones that is, in fact everything, I accept anything or everything that this "dailylife" might choose to throw at me now, but know this too, this mind if anything is sharpened by it, this pen is steadied by it, and this imagination escapes right through and beyond it, for we are all prisoners of circumstance here, yes, but do you think that I am as chained on the inside too, by all this cheapness then, MYAHAHAHAHA..." addressed the goblin to his "dailylife" again knowing that it could hurt or please as it wished but that simply "to live" is "to win"

repost from a UK "last post" thread, just sharing

the goblin thanked xxxx for her comment, saying "...now I know I am going to amaze you though, besides, I think Britain is ready for it too, you see, here in Europe we have a metal water troff we call a "bath tab" which one can fill with hot or cold water depending on what temperature one likes, and then, when one feels its just the right temperature ones takes off ones garments, which I imagine would be those animals skins and war clubs in wales that is, where one gets into the water..." mentioned the goblin not really knowing how to continue with the concept then but he tried, continuing "....now the next bit is harder to explain but do you remember that stuff that pours out of the other poster's ears here, well it's not exactly those poster's earwax as far as I know, but it looks very much like it, anyway, it's called "soap" and it melts ones body grease and grime in the water..." at which point the goblin wondered if xxxx hadn't somehow collapsed on the floor in utter shock here, so the goblin thought it best to wait and see before he would continue in his next post, "...now where are the other poster's socks when you need them..." went the goblin hoping he hadn't gone too quickly here

("...no, everyone wins here, because one won't know that others posters have posted after one..." ventured the goblin again, adding "...btw either I have won at valhara's or they are not trolls, total silence there MYAHAHAHAHAHA....")

the goblin knew that no one was expected to post here feeling that this "last post" thread was more like a chance to do ones own thing, be creative, etc, so the goblin simply repeated "...it's not the tagging of this thread that is going to win one anything much on this thread, that is, because the real winning begins when one actually is asking oneself "what in my life is worth posting here" and then tries to post something from that standpoint I believe...", and with that the goblin smiled "...life it too short to miss out on what one might have posted, also too short to react to heckles either, since if you're "good" then those hecklers are wrong and, if you're "bad", you're going to get better so those hecklers are wrong again if you keep at it that is..."

: Re: the last person to post here wins

So Lewis Carroll was into kids then? Guess he went into the right profession writing childrens books...

Wasn't there another famous writer who was fascinated by young boys and was investigated but never charged with anything? He was around ages ago but I can't remember his name. Or maybe it was Lewise Carroll.

Michael Jackson's love isn't limited to young boys, i think he also has a thing for chimpanzees and Llamas....

He did warn people......

(the other one interested in children was james barrie of Peter Pan fame, but with him there is nothing to suggest anything bad, he just liked being with the boys, odd as it was it was all above board)

repost from "what are you thinking" thread, elsewhere

"...well I'm thinking about that gap, between that of ones "internal" self and ones "physical" self, again..." mentioned the goblin, adding "...the question now is how to create an "Internal" self that helps me come to terms with the demise of me "physical" self here, as summed up in the idea "the act replaces the actor, the writer by his creation" I suppose...", in fact the goblin clearly understood that no one could escape their own age, only that the goblin was never aware of his age, nor even of being here, when he was creating something, simply inside he was alway oblivious and remained ever that same vivid imagination that he had always been when creating something

repost from troll's site "last post" thread

"...oh no, don't bother to read my stuff please, a troll's golden rule is simple, "one writes for oneself, one reads for oneself too", lose sight of that and one risks becoming normal, and we hate being normal don't we..." said the goblin, adding "...in fact, you trolls should turn off the notifications here, vow not to look at the replies, and above all, not post back then

I could make a "journals" section, where no one but the person who starts the thread could reply to it.

And put all your stuff there.

Let me know

("...no no, that would be a blog, blogs are boring because there is one central character with all the other people looking on..." said the goblin, adding "...but a "last post" thread is a round table then, simply the last posters here is the one with the post...", in fact the goblin had written that original reply to those trolls to underline a lesson here, that in attacking someone one is forced to go through their replies later, so I don't attack people on their threads for exactly this reason then...", in fact, the goblin was enjoying the troll's site for now but he could only be on a limited number of threads)

morning and the goblin starts the day with the usual "what have I forgotten" and then, when he sees he has forgotten nothing, forgets everything till his next "what have I forgotten" moment comes some time later in the day, it is as if he pops in and out his "dailylife" in this way then, "...oh no, I don't daydream during my day as that is my normal state I "down to earth" at times..." joked the goblin while his body did the household chores unnoticed by him

in fact no one knew if Obama was "any good",  just that he was "so much better", and with that the goblin too put his faith in Obama, and yet the goblin also suspected this crash of 2009/10 was now imminent, and that any correction in the market could somehow be "delayed", "accepted in defeat", or "fought tooth and nail", or any mix of those scenarios perhaps then, and yet, still this crash would just flood in like a some financial tsunami, if only because it seems natural that these monitory  faultlines inevitably and invariably correct themselves taking their investors and everyone else with them each time, "...here we are again then, any reason why this time is should be any different, bar in possible magnitude perhaps..." ventured the goblin

Obama's job is to nursemaid the country through this, I think he just might be the man for the job.

"...happy April fools day..." said the goblin knowing that that was probably the right word for sleep-deprivation resulting from trying to take over the internet by stealth, even if his email inbox resembled a jungle of "last post" replies, sanity by the way was now that faint dot on the horizon long behind him, somehow Star Trek springs to the goblin's mind with kirk's words as the goblin repeats " dart dadar di di di di dee....Internet, the final frontier, to boldly start "last post" threads where no goblin has gone before, to meet an endless stream of engaging dotty humans....da dar etc..." then adding "...Ok Slotty you can beam everyone else up now..." the goblin pressed his "post" button

47)The goblin's stay in grindsvile(Geneva) was short, once more he would go through the cemetery to the tax-office probably thinking "...man, who is born of women has but a short time to pay taxes.." and although the congregation of the tax-office resembled that of a church, the same ties, same feeling of absolution, the wiping of the slate, etc., only the god was different. The goblin then saw four horses pass before him in the reception, their being capitalism's promise of inequality, insecurity's promise of fear, poverty's promise of crime and resignation's promise of childlessness, and then wondered if this is what most people daydream waiting in the taxoffice, "....anyway.." he goblin said to himself ".."tax here, death outside and God upstairs" should read the sign above the door..." as the goblin, his dues duly declared, dances out of the taxoffice into the cemetery feeling absolutely absolved to the Moneygod until the sobriety of so many gravestones stopped him with the thought "...funny how we build so much of our lives on a mere assumption of certainty...", he quickened his pace homewards, the clear day now seemed cold.

"...life is a series of shocks to me..." mentioned the goblin, only a day or so after the hold up at the "money exchange" across from his work place, one with that usual "someone just walking into the exchange, asking for the money at gunpoint, and then escaping on a stolen motorbike", no, what was unusual was that it happened at all, simply events like these don't happen in safe Switzerland, so times had changed it seemed, and yet, what with the gathering of the gypsies in their ever larger numbers, the lack of snow in Winter, and Summer's insufferable heat, Geneva, the goblin had to admit to himself, was different now, "...it's as if this accumulation of little changes over the years that, although insignificant in themselves and too gradual to really notice, had suddenly had one waking up to the shock of it all...", somehow the goblin's life simply seems ever to straddle this mental fault-line of his own complacency, and then bang, a new landscape appears out of the old, and his bearings have to be reset to the new norm again

the ghost of divorce

day turns to night, the droning darkness hides shapes and shadows of things past feels the goblin as he looks out across the lightly lit city of Geneva, "...cold is king then..." he thinks aloud to himself alone with his thoughts "...in the cold of the night comes these ghosts, god I hate them as much as they must hate me, they won't die till I do, I know that, and my mother brings them back from where I thought I buried them inside..." the goblin's mind went back to his first marriage, of letting go a little girl's hand and saying  "...mummy and daddy are not happy..." and then the formalities of separate lives of an ex wife and a daughter of his first marriage at an ever acceptable distance, and each with new lives and partners, each understanding that "it was the only way", "the right thing", "one can't live a lie can one", etc.," but the goblin also knew that no amount of understanding puts this ghost to rest, "...time hadn't..." he was struggling to say what he saw now, "...but a death in the family puts family members back facing one another again..." said the goblin "...our unspoken ghost will be sitting between us three I imagine while we pretend to be nice to one another..."

repost from "welcome new members" thread, elsewhere

the goblin welcomes the new member saying "...it's all hush hush actually and I feel I can trust you here, but this site is, in fact, just a front for the "Homeland security service" and their operatives in their ongoing undercover work to root out the threat of cyber terrorism on the Internet...", the goblin paused knowing that it was all too hard to comprehend in one go, but he continued "...simply think about it, which site would you least expect a cyber attack to originate from, that is between some ultra smart nerdy eastern block country, the Taliban's site, the Nigerian spamming site, well those types of sites on the one hand, and, or, just somewhere like this site here then, where the members can, and do, manage to hit the "post" button from time to time, so that's right the members here are really sharp "Homeland security" operatives only pretending to be otherwise, very snide of them I know but in fact they're probably the best America has..."

"...I suppose those trolls do add to ones membership and overall post count here then..." replied the goblin, perhaps suspecting that admin had gone about his site in a way that was altogether normal, straight forward, and the like, and yet not too well thought out, in that the goblin too, had a site, which he had been open for some years ago now, save that it's members were by invite only to those people that that goblin knew well from way back, "...the real question is whether one can run a site that has no members for a year or so, seeing what one can create for oneself first, and then, once one really knows what ones interest are, inviting those who share them or who you feel would benefit from being invited..."

Nature's Conflict too

Curse you crows on better branches
Who leave us owls with lesser chances
Who made us creatures of this night
Always in fear of your daytime strike
But in the dark you cannot see
The owl that swoops upon thee.

Curse you owls in your hidden nest
Who stork us crows as we do rest
Who made us creatures of this day
Always in fear of your nighttime play
But in the light you cannot stop
The crows that group to drop.

I dunno.

Allowing only "known members" to join a board so as to avoid trolls is like throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

It's easy enough to remove the unwanteds, and there are lots of potential members out there who could add positive things to an internet board.

("...I suppose it's just two ways of looking at things, the detraction is that one has a small member base, the plus is that one is dealing with people who are known factors, I just prefer the later, rather than looking over my shoulder each time..." mentioned the goblin)

repost from elsewhere, the "swine flu" thread

the goblin felt that much of what had been posted till now was valid, however his overall conjecture was that the authorities were playing their cards badly, in that, as pointed out before, this is not something nearly as deadly as SARS coronavirus, with its very high death rate, "...in fact, we are looking at something on par with normal influenza, nothing more than that it seems..." said the goblin, adding "...and what are we doing, we are using a stored vaccines on it, so what will happen now, if an outbreak of a SARS like infection occurs in six months time, where we already know how long it takes to stockpile vaccines like this, and that there are not enough vaccines for everyone at this point...", the goblin stopped, as if remembering something else "...the truth is that humans not exposed to infections cannot gain an immunity to them, this strain is new and our bodies are not used to it, agreed, but this infection is rather like that live polio vaccine where, unlike normal vaccines, dead material isn't used, simply, this mild infection could turn out to be a body defense booster, which until it is proved otherwise, should be allowed to run its course though the community in my opinion, with those vaccines saved for only the very weakest amongst us...", perhaps the goblin's words smacked of eugenics here, but somehow the idea of "controlled forest fires", was the goblin stance, since everyone knew what eventually happens to a forest where no forest fires is allowed, so the body, much like the forest, has to have something to build up its own immunity with, or otherwise it dies when the "big one" breaks out

I'm sort of middle of the road on that one.

I've banned at least a dozen trolls from this board. Sure they supplied post volume and occasionally even said something interesting...but I preferred to keep this board clean and make it a place where people could post without "fear of retribution and flaming".

The extreme would be to keep registration private and limited to known members only.

The other extreme would be something like Trollvalhalla where virtually anything goes short of bestiality, pedophilia, or copyright infringement, and the only reason those things are prohibited is because the site would be shut down if that stuff was posted.

In fact, the goblin had mentioned it before, but for him at least, this site always felt like being in America, though it was an America without pretense or brag here, just an everyday one with everyday members living everyday lives, "...well make that two donuts and a American coffee please..." shouted the goblin to to the bistro owner's wife again, she looked back, first perplexed, and then burst out laughing "...oh sinor goblin, you trying to kill me, your joke is very funny my sweet one...", somehow this enormous credibility gap had just opened wide where the wooden floor of the bistro had been, even though the goblin was in earnest here, simply he liked America when it didn't notice the camera

most everything about me is explained already somewhere, the "writer" bit comes next except that it doesn't in that I am not a writer, or that perhaps what most people think of as a writer is not my interpretation of one, simply "a writer is not what he has done but what he is doing", what of it, well nothing really, save that everything that I have ever written is dead at this point, set in the past, belonging to the Internet and utterly dead, so perhaps this "journey to self" of just "facing the slot" like now is what then..." the goblin paused knowing he couldn't quite bridge it, "...that "publishing" I feel, is for some fossil minded fame seeking type whereas here in this small triangle of computer/coffee/self, I have had all the live writing, interaction and anonymous fame that anyone could even wish for..." ventured the goblin who knew deep down that he was lying, "...OK I admit it then, no there's never really is enough anonymous fame for this goblin it seems..." laughed the goblin at himself, that is, as if the result of being famous while still remaining anonymous really made any difference in the long run

(the goblin held the hit count above the post count, if only because "the former is self generated whereas the latter was given", and although his dailylife too, was often the source of posts, but he never let it cloud the issue here, saying "...yes one finds oneself through dailylife, but a large part of ones character remains hidden without writing though that doesn't need to be posts per say...")

In the old house the mirror to the bathroom is always there, just as it has been since the goblin's childhood, its full length, and, to anyone else of course, would be just another mirror like any other mirror that they pass in the course of their day that is, and yes the goblin too passes many mirrors in his day, except that each time the goblin looks into the depths of this one mirror he see himself yes, but besides seeing his own reflection as most people would, he also sees those ghosts of himself years before, not as some tease, nor as a premise for regret or something, no, only as something "matter of fact", as those ghosts were then, or as they still are perhaps, “...well it's a compromise goblin...” said one of them suddenly, continuing “...we don't get to live on into that “you” we see here, but we do retain our countenances which is more than I can say for you of course, you're dying goblin like everyone else that is, whereas we can't die, ah but we can't change either, simply we're as “stuck aground” in your past, as you are “stuck adrift” in your present goblin, and we salute you for simply we owe ourselves to you then, that's all, dare I put it as it's as if you are the “last post” of us...”
